Trinidad
Trinidad, the larger of the two islands that make up Trinidad and Tobago, is a vibrant Caribbean gem bursting with culture, history, and natural beauty. Known for its stunning beaches, lush rainforests, and rich biodiversity, the island offers everything from adventurous hikes in the Northern Range to serene boat rides through the Caroni Swamp, where scarlet ibises take flight at sunset.
The capital, Port of Spain, is a dynamic hub of activity, with lively markets, delicious street food, and a deep musical heritage rooted in steelpan, soca, and calypso. Whether exploring historic sites like Fort George or indulging in the island’s diverse culinary scene—think doubles, roti, and fresh seafood—Trinidad offers an unforgettable Caribbean experience.
But nothing captures the soul of Trinidad quite like its legendary Carnival, often called “The Greatest Show on Earth.” Held annually on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, Carnival is an explosion of color, music, and revelry that transforms the entire island into a non-stop party. Thousands of costumed masqueraders take to the streets in dazzling, feathered ensembles, dancing to the infectious beats of soca and calypso.
The festival kicks off with J’ouvert, a wild, paint-and-mud-covered street party before sunrise, followed by the grand parade, where massive music trucks lead waves of revelers through the city. From the pulsating rhythms of steelpan competitions to the high-energy fetes leading up to the main event, Trinidad’s Carnival is a mesmerizing fusion of artistry, tradition, and pure joy, drawing visitors from all over the world to experience its unmatched energy.

Gasparee Caves and Down the Islands Cruise (8 am)
At this marina you board a fine Bertram Yacht. Cruise the beautiful waters off the Northwest Coast of Trinidad on your way to the first stop at Gaspar Grande Island to explore the Gasparee Caves.
On arriving at Gaspar Grande, you start an easy uphill hike that will take about 25 minutes. It is fairly steep so pace yourself. Along the way you will learn of the island’s human and natural history of the island. On this hike you will pass an old American World War II gunnery at the top of the hill.
After a short rest, you will enter the cave from the top and descend a well-lit metal staircase which leads to the extraordinary cave system 100 feet below that is filled with stalactites and stalagmites, sinkholes and a crystal pool that shimmers like glass, reflecting the colors of the light that filters through the cave. Here the cave formations are the best in Trinidad and Tobago with some shaped like dinosaurs and others like angels. You will spend up to one hour in the cave.
Following your visit to the Caves, return to the yacht to cruise to a secluded bay, only reachable by boat, where you can go for a relaxing swim, play with water toys or just take in the ambiance while lying on deck. Catch a glimpse of turtles. dolphins and other marine wildlife.
Watch the islands roll by in perfect comfort, enjoying refreshments and listening to local music with access to on-board bathroom facilities.
