Thailand

Known as the Land of Smiles, Thailand is the most visited country in Southeast Asia, and for good reason. You can find almost anything here: thick jungle as green as can be, crystal blue waters that feel more like a warm bath than a swim in the ocean, and food that can curl your nose hairs while tap dancing across your taste buds. Exotic, yet safe; inexpensive, yet equipped with every modern amenity you need, there is something for every interest. Despite the heavy flow of tourism, Thailand retains its quintessential identity, with a culture and history all its own and a carefree people famed for their smiles and their fun-seeking (sanuk) lifestyle. Many travelers come to Thailand and extend their stay well beyond their original plans and others never find a reason to leave.

There are thousands of temples and cultural centers promoting the unique Thai culture, as well as Royal Thai palaces to witness. Of course, Thailand’s beaches and islands are unmissable as their beauty and uniqueness are breathtaking. With a huge range of water activities including snorkeling, scuba diving, rafting, and kayaking, there is something for everyone. Elephant sanctuaries, monkeys, and big cats abound. From stunning waterfalls to prehistoric caves, there is much to see and explore in The Land of Smiles.

Discover Thailand, from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai in the north to Phuket in the south. Visit temples and palaces. Swim and climb waterfalls, zipline through the trees, and raft over class III and IV rapids on the Mae Taeng River. Bathe an elephant and snorkel in crystal blue waters. Join us for an adventure tour of the Land of Smiles and Tokoph’s birthday month, bucket list destination.

Bua Tong Sticky Waterfalls and Huge Cave Tour. Pickup time 9:00 am. Be in the lobby by 8:45 am.

Enjoy climbing & bathing in a fantastic location. Jungle trekking is the greatest way to get close to the nature of Chiang Mai.

The Sticky Waterfalls or Bua Tong Waterfalls are well known for their rock formations with a sticky surface. This stickiness comes from a kind of algae in the water, making it very easy and safe to climb up the rocks. These beautiful waterfalls are 60 kilometers north of Chiang Mai city and surrounded by gorgeous rain forests. With this one-day trek, we will focus on visiting the Sticky Waterfalls and follow the trails into the jungle to visit some more remote and unknown waterfalls in the area, and the fascinating Fountain of Seven Colors spring.

Prepare to climb sticky limestone rock formations, perfect for all levels of adventurers at the Bua Tong Sticky Waterfalls. Swim in the cool clear waters of the waterfall and enjoy having a picnic lunch.

Explore the hidden caves and admire the spectacular system of stalactites and stalagmites.

The Sticky Waterfalls get their name from a mineral deposit that is incredibly grippy. In fact, the rocks feel like a hardened sponge. They are callous and even slightly prickly to the touch but surprisingly give a bit under pressure. Since no algae or slime adheres to the rocks, they are the perfect canvas to climb up the waterfall. It is impressively steep in some places, but with the aid of the limestone deposits on the stones, you’ll feel like Spider-Man!

These multi-tiered waterfalls are easy on the eyes and a great way to cool off in Thailand’s heat. They are a challenge to your muscles, though. If you do plan to climb these waterfalls, be prepared to work muscles in your legs and feet you never knew existed.

Itinerary

  • Visit the peaceful Hidden Cave.

Full Day Hike, Bike and Kayak Tour. Pickup at 9:30 am. Be in the lobby by 9:15 am.

Our day starts at the base of Suthep Mountain just above the city, following the monk trail we do the modest climb up to Wat Pa Lat Temple. This 45 minute hike gets our hearts pounding and leaves us breathless when we reach the views of Chiang Mai City from the acquired altitude.

The walk to the Wat Pa Lat Temple brings us close to the Buddhist traditional pilgrimage to Wat Suthep, as Wat Pa Lat was built as a main resting stop for the traveling monk. Our bikes are already waiting for us at the temple for a rewarding downhill run into the valley.

After well-deserved refreshments, we glide down to the valley where we pick up a bike lane for a 10 km ride to Huay Tung Tao Lake.

On arrival, after customarily circumnavigating the lake, we enjoy a well-deserved lunch break by the water. You are also invited for a swim at the lake at this time.

All done we get ready to tackle the Ping River by kayak and marvel again at the green side of life as we paddle into the heart of Chiang Mai as ancient traders had done for centuries, reaching the old city with their wares. This almost 2 hr paddle leaves you relaxed and ready for your evening activities. A great way to see the green side of Chiang Mai City. (return approx. 3:30 pm)

Day 9 - (Nov 15) Chiang Rai Black House, White Temple, and Blue Temple

Chiang Rai Black House, White Temple, and Blue Temple all day tour. Pickup time 07:00 am. Be in the lobby by 06:45 am.

Visit the three most famous temples in Chiang Rai. The Black House (Baan Dam Museum), White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), and Blue Temple (Wat Rong Suea Ten). Chiang Rai is the most Northern Province in Thailand. It is bordering Myanmar and Laos at the famous golden triangle.

Be captivated by the incredible sights of Chiang Rai in this day’s exploration. Start your day with a relaxing immersion at the Mae Kajan Hot Spring, then head to Wat Rong Khun, the spectacular White Temple is known for its hauntingly beautiful blend of cultural and contemporary details. Designed by Thai National Artist Chalermchai Kositpipat, the temple features an entrance with outstretched hands, a Predator jutting from the ground, as well as a number of other pop culture references within the dazzling white structure.

Then head over to the Blue Temple, as the temple boasts a beautiful vibrant blue color. Stop by for a buffet lunch at the restaurant, then head off to the Black House, a museum, and also the home of the National Artist Dr. Thawan Duchanee.

There you’ll find a complex of dark and eerily designed buildings, filled with bones, skulls, fur, and feathers, displayed, and arranged as though an exhibit, but also as homely ornamentation. It’s a fascinating immersion in the Thai north, one that captivates with its beauty, as well as its mystery.

Then we’ll visit the Karen Long-neck tribe at the Union of Hill Tribe Villages, where the diversity of 5 hill tribes come together. Best recognized for their elongated necks, the Karen women wear heavy brass rings around their necks, forearms, and shins. While the Karen men are mainly field workers and farmers, the women have a rich history of crafting from wood carving to weaving. Overall, the Long Neck Tribes live a rugged, tedious, and simple lifestyle, but the fruits of their labor are colorful and very lively. The mystery and beauty that surround the tradition of using brass rings for exaggerated jewelry is something better seen in person than in a book. (Return approx. 7:30 pm)
